What is a weight-based inventory scale?
A weight-based inventory scale is a precision scale that sits under or inside a parts bin and converts the bin's weight into an item count. The scale knows the weight per item (assigned at setup), so any change in total weight gets translated into a change in item quantity. SecuraScales delivers this with 0.1 ounce sensitivity across a 75-pound range - accurate enough for the smallest fasteners through the heaviest bulk inventory.
Do SecuraScales need to be calibrated?
No. They ship from the factory pre-calibrated and never require calibration during their service life. This is the biggest design difference between SecuraScales and most competing inventory scales - the rest of the industry runs on a calibration cycle that costs labor and creates accuracy gaps. SecuraScales removes that cycle entirely.
Can SecuraScales work on tilted or inclined shelving?
Yes. Many ergonomic bin layouts use tilted shelves for easier reach. SecuraScales auto-adjusts for the surface angle during initial install, so the count accuracy holds whether the scale sits on a flat surface or an inclined one.
What is the maximum weight a SecuraScales unit can hold?
75 pounds per scale. The 0.1 ounce sensitivity holds at every point in that range. For bins exceeding 75 pounds, multiple scales can be configured to read collectively, or larger custom-spec scales are available through your distributor.
Can one SecuraScales unit track two different SKUs?
Yes. Dual SKU mode supports two SKUs in two zones on a single scale. Useful for pairs (left/right hand parts), related sizes (different fastener thread pitches), or any inventory where keeping closely related items distinct matters for the count.
How does SecuraScales detect foreign objects in the bin?
The scale builds a baseline weight profile per item. When something foreign goes into the bin (a wrench, a piece of debris, an item that doesn't match the assigned SKU weight), the scale's logic recognizes the anomalous weight and flags it via SecuraSmart. The scale continues operating - it doesn't shut down - so the operations team can investigate while the bin stays in use.
Why is FOD prevention important for aerospace manufacturing?
Foreign Object Debris in an aircraft assembly can cost millions per incident - and FAA regulations require active FOD prevention programs at every certified manufacturer. A loose washer or wrench inside a wing assembly is a regulatory event.
